As a seasoned traveler, I've been to many cities, but Bangkok never fails to surprise me. And this time I was determined to uncover the city's hidden gems and stray from the typical tourist trail. So, I hit the streets and was blown away by what I found. Maybe jet-lag hasn't worn off yet... but Bangkok seemed busier than usual!
My first stop was the little-known Wat Anongkharam, a Buddhist temple hidden away in the heart of the city. It was a peaceful escape from the chaos of Bangkok, and I was struck by the beauty of its intricate carvings and gold-plated stupas.
Next, I took a stroll through the Saphan Phut Night Market, a lively night market that locals love but tourists rarely visit. I was entertained by the street performers, tantalized by the smells of grilled meats and fresh seafood, and lost in the endless rows of trinkets and knick-knacks.

I was also lucky enough to attend a traditional Thai boxing match at the Lumphini Stadium, a hidden gem in the heart of the city. It was an exhilarating experience, and I was in awe of the skill and agility of the fighters.
Then I made my way to the charming Phra Nakhon district, known for its vibrant street art and laid-back vibe. I wandered the streets, taking in the colorful murals and stopping for a refreshing drink at one of the many street-side cafes.
This is where I heard about the upcoming BANGKOKRIVERSIDE FEST which starts tomorrow, a fun filled three days by the banks of the mighty Chao Phraya River. It takes place from the 3rd to the 5th February 2023.
My journey took me to the Wat Suthat Thepwararam, a stunning temple known for its intricate carvings and colorful murals. I was entranced by its beauty, and I was one of only a few tourists, making for a peaceful and authentic experience.
I also took a walking tour of the historic Thonburi district, where I discovered the Wat Prayoon, a stunning temple known for its picturesque gardens and ornate architecture. I was enchanted by the peaceful atmosphere, and I was transported back in time as I strolled through the ancient streets.
This city is generally so noisy, busy, polluted and irresistibly bustling with life!
I feel that to get to know it, one must spend at least a dozen years here.
