Now that I am getting a taste of that exciting freedom, which is part of travelling to foreign countries and meeting new cultures, I have had time to think about how much effort was involved in breaking free from my every day routine.
It was really difficult! Almost like escaping from a prison of my own making...
Breaking away from the routine of everyday life to travel the world is a dream for many, but let me tell you, it comes with its own set of difficulties, to say the least!
Taking time off to travel the world can be a life-changing experience, but the thought of leaving behind the comfort and security of your routine can be daunting. And there are a multitude of loose ends to tie up and a significant amount of preparation to undertake before you leave.
One may even encounter social stigma and envy from friends and family who are not able or interested in taking such a journey, and yet cannot enjoy or appreciated that you have decided to do so.
In this post, I want to explore some of the difficulties of breaking away from the routine of everyday life to travel the world and provide tips for overcoming these obstacles.
One of the biggest challenges of traveling the world is figuring out how to tie up all the loose ends in your life. You may need to take care of financial obligations, such as paying off debts or saving enough money to support your travels. You also need to make arrangements for your home and possessions, such as finding a renter or storing your belongings. Finally, you may need to take care of professional obligations, such as finding someone to cover your work responsibilities or taking a leave of absence.
Another difficulty is facing the social stigma that may come with such a decision. Some people may view it as irresponsible to leave your job and financial stability behind, especially in a time when job security is uncertain. Additionally, some friends and family members may view your decision as selfish, as you will be away from them for an extended period of time.
Worst of all, you may encounter envy from friends and family who are unable to take a year off to travel the world. While they may be supportive of your decision, they may also feel a sense of jealousy or resentment that they cannot take such a journey themselves.
As I prepared for my trip, I was overwhelmed by these thoughts and could barely utter the word travel or tell anyone about my plans. In my fear that speaking about it would provoke the god's hubris, I was afraid to speak out loud.
Here are some tips I thought might help to Overcome These Obstacles:
Plan ahead: Start planning your trip well in advance, so you have enough time to take care of all the loose ends and make the necessary arrangements.
Talk to your employer: If you have a job, talk to your employer about taking a leave of absence. Many employers are supportive of their employees' personal growth and may be willing to work with you to find a solution that benefits both parties.
Save up: Make sure you have enough money saved up to support your travels and any unexpected expenses that may arise.
Be honest: If you encounter social stigma or envy from friends and family, be honest about your reasons for taking a year off to travel. Explain how it will help you grow as a person and how you plan to make the most of this opportunity.
Don't hide in silence like me, the god's support those who dare!
Taking time off to travel the world can be a challenging but rewarding experience. By preparing ahead of time, being honest about your motivations, and having a solid financial plan in place, you can overcome the difficulties of breaking away from your routine and embark on a life-changing journey.
