"J" for Jeju Island, South Korea: Discovering the Beauty and Culture

Maybe not all of my friends and followers know (or remember) that my world tour is progressing by visiting locations in alphabetical order. Having reached the letter "J" it is time to head to Jeju (South Korea).

Not only because Jeju Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was designated as a natural site in 2007 for its unique geological features, including its lava tube system, volcanic cones, and craters. But especially because Jeju Island is famous for its Haenyeo deep sea divers. These women have been diving without the use of modern equipment for centuries to harvest seafood such as abalone, octopus, and seaweed. The Haenyeo culture has played an important role in the history and economy of Jeju Island, and today it is recognized as an important intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO!

When I arrive on Jeju Island, I can't wait to explore all of the amazing things it has to offer. Here are some of the top things on my to-do list:

• I'll start by checking out the beautiful beaches, like Hyeopjae Beach and Woljeongri Beach, to soak up some sun and enjoy the crystal-clear water.

• Next, I'm excited to challenge myself with a hike up Mt. Hallasan, the highest mountain in South Korea. I can't wait to see the stunning views from the top!

• To get a taste of the island's rich cultural heritage, I'll visit Jeju Folk Village and explore the traditional houses and artifacts.

• For a unique and memorable experience, I'll check out Jeju Loveland, an outdoor sculpture park filled with erotic art. It might not be for everyone, but I'm definitely curious to see it for myself :) :) :)

• And of course, I can't leave Jeju Island without trying the local cuisine, especially the famous black pork. I'm looking forward to tasting all of the delicious dishes that this island has to offer.

Overall, I can't wait to immerse myself in the beauty and culture of Jeju Island. It's sure to be an unforgettable adventure!
