Packing for a trip: a love-hate relationship.

"Packing for a trip: a love-hate relationship. On one hand, you want to be prepared for any and every situation. On the other hand, you don't want to be that person lugging around multiple suitcases and a backpack the size of a small village.

I, unfortunately, fall into the latter category. I am the queen of over-packing. I once packed a separate outfit for every single day of a one-week trip (and let's just say, I didn't need that many clothes).

But my crowning achievement of over-packing has been preparing my upcoming world tour. I started off strong, only packing two suitcases and a carry-on. But as I went on, I just couldn't resist the temptation of all the things I thought I would miss from home.

Then, last night, I had a nightmare.

I was travelling and by the time I reached my first destination, I was the proud owner of six suitcases, a backpack, and a duffel bag!

In my dream, I was trying to navigate through airports and train stations with that much baggage, and it was no easy feat.

Getting stopped by TSA agents, who would give me a skeptical look and ask, "Are you sure all of this is yours?" To which I would sheepishly reply, "Yes, it's all mine. I have a problem."

So I thought it over and have some tips to share for those of you who, like me, have trouble traveling light:

  1. Make a packing list and stick to it. This will help you stay focused on what you actually need and prevent you from throwing in random items "just in case." (Like your espresso machine)

  2. Invest in versatile clothing items that can be worn multiple ways. This way, you won't have to bring as many different outfits.

  3. Pack travel-size toiletries to save space. You can always buy full-size items once you reach your destination.

  4. Remember that you can always do laundry on the go. It's better to have fewer clothes and do laundry than to be weighed down by too much baggage.

  5. Don't forget to enjoy the journey and leave some space in your luggage for souvenirs and memories!

Moral of the story: pack light, my friends. It may be hard at first, but your back will thank you in the end.

Remember, there is an algebra formula to keep in mind: every kilometer travelled will feel like an extra kilogram in long run.

1000 km = >1000 kg. of luggage!

I just hope I can follow my own advice!
